Education and training
What we offer
Delivering high-quality education and training is part of our role as a peer-led, specialist LGBTIQA+SB legal service.
Our education and training is:
grounded in casework and lived legal experience
designed to build capability and understanding, not just to transfer legal information
We offer community education for LGBTIQA+SB people and groups, and provide training for legal and community professionals.
Community education
Our community education is designed to empower the LGBTIQA+SB community to:
understand our legal rights and options
understand how legal problems are shaped by structural and systemic factors
build confidence to enable us to advocate for ourselves and each other
enter into pathways into legal assistance, advocacy and collective action
Examples include:
empowering, rights-based training on LGBTIQA+SB legal issues
community workshops and discussions linked to emerging legal or policy issues
engaging resources and materials that are accessible, community-informed and practical
peer and community capacity-building, supporting people to advocate for themselves and their communities
Training for legal and community professionals
We provide training and capacity building support to:
LGBTIQA+SB organisations
community lawyers and legal sector professionals
mainstream service providers and community organisations
This work aims to boost the sector’s ability to work safely and effectively with LGBTIQA+SB communities.
Our professional training is delivered by lawyers with specialist expertise.
Examples include:
specialist training on LGBTIQA+SB legal issues, including family law, anti-discrimination, gender-affirming care, family violence, and human rights
guidance for lawyers and service providers on how to build safer, more inclusive systems and interactions for LGBTQIA+SB clients, such as inclusive data collection, intake systems, and respectful first contact with clients
sharing emerging legal issues and trends, informed by our casework and strategic litigation
